Ubisoft delays release of The Settlers due to closed beta criticism – Gaming – News

The beta was quite concise and just plain tedious to play. For example, the AI was ridiculously bad because all you had to do was kill the opposing team’s engineers as quickly as possible and the AI helped you with that by sending them one by one along your turrets.

The biggest flaw was that you first had to claim an area with your engineers in order to build there. Normally you expand your sphere of influence with buildings, but no, now men had to hit poles to get to resources. It was therefore childishly easy to deprive the opposing party of resources by claiming those areas and protecting them with turrets or troops.

In addition, a game took hours because of this. Claim territory first, then loot a supply shed (otherwise it will take even longer), put down protection, then mine the resources. After a game or 3 you would have had that. If you played 2vs2, 9 times out of 10 you ended up playing alone because your alliance ended as soon as someone went offline. I understand this last one, but let someone else join.

No, the beta was very disappointing and showed me that all those years of waiting for a sequel to Settlers was just wasted time. Fortunately, there is an alternative that is much nicer that has been in development for years. Highly recommended for those who like RTS and miss the Godgames. Universim: for sale on Steam at a bargain price and really something that makes Settlers pale in comparison.
