Ubisoft Confirms Layoffs for US and UK Teams Ahead of Earnings Briefing

Ubisoft has confirmed a series of layoffs for team members in the US and UK. The company said in an emailed statement that 60 employees at the company’s offices in Cary, North Carolina and Newcastle in the UK “may be affected” due to organizational changes.

The cuts come from the Ubisoft Customer Relations Center team. This group is “evolving its organization to focus where we can have a meaningful impact while staying true to our commitment to consistently support our players around the world,” Ubisoft said.

Due to organizational changes, 60 employees could be affected. One of the employees affected is Matthew Hayes, who wrote on Twitter that Ubisoft had not given notice of the cuts.

The announcement of this change and the workforce reductions comes just ahead of Ubisoft’s next earnings briefing on May 16, where it will release its annual business results.

Layoffs in video game studios and in the technology sector have been frequent in recent months. Game engine company Unity just laid off 600 people, Take-Two cut a number of positions, and Xbox cut jobs at developer Halo 343 and elsewhere.

Ubisoft’s next big event is the Ubisoft Forward showcase in June where it is expected to discuss its upcoming games.
