Ubisoft backs off collector’s editions of its Xbox games

About ten days ago, Presse-citron told you about a very questionable decision on the part of the French publisher concerning the collector editions of these three most anticipated games for the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Indeed, we discovered with great surprise that the Xbox Series X versions of FarCry 6, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion were going to be offered in digital version. That is to say that in the content of each collector (offered at 200 €), Xbox players would not be entitled to their “box” version of their game, but to a download code.

Problem? This decision was made long after the pre-orders of the games went live. Moreover, Ubisoft and Microsoft had not bothered to warn the players in question. As for the PS4 and PS5 players, the latter were spared by this very curious decision.

In the face of gamer anger and indignation, Microsoft and Ubisoft backed down a few days ago. But this will not concern all players …

If you haven’t pre-ordered your Collector’s Edition of FarCry 6, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, or Watch Dogs Legion on Xbox Series X yet, it’s already too late. Faced with the huge bad-buzz about the withdrawal of physical editions on Xbox, Microsoft and Ubisoft decided to backtrack. Thus, all players who have pre-ordered (and paid for) their collector before August 20, 2020 will have the right to receive a physical version of their game.

On the other hand, for all the players who wish to crack for an edition at 200 € on Xbox One / Xbox Series X, it will be necessary to be satisfied with the digital version of the game. On PS4 and PS5 however, nothing changes, the games will be well offered. in box version and not via a download code.

Neither Microsoft nor Ubisoft has commented on this affair to explain why this rather curious decision (which, as a reminder, will offer a steelbook… Without disc). The French publisher has, however, issued a press release concerning the backtracking on this decision.

Our mission at Ubisoft is to provide you with the best possible shopping experience on our store. Following our decision to change support for the game included in the Xbox Collector’s Edition of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, we’ve heard from the community. We have decided to revert to the original offering and reintroduce the physical disc for editions already ordered.
So we decided to go back to the original offering and re-introduce the physical disc instead of the downloadable version of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. As always, our priority is to ensure that you receive your order in time for the release of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, so that you can enjoy your purchase without any delay. You will receive a shipment confirmation of your order along with delivery tracking information as the game launch date approaches.

This also applies to the Collector’s Editions of FarCry 6 and Watch Dogs Legion.
