Ubisoft Announces Remake of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag: A Pirate Adventure Returns

Ubisoft is expanding its most popular franchises including Assassin’s Creed. Kotaku has learned that the strategy now includes a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag, an 18th-century pirate fantasy adventure and one of the series’ most memorable installments. It’s what many fans ask for every time they see a new trailer for Skull and Bones, another Ubisoft pirated game that’s been in development hell for a long time.

According to two people familiar with the plans, who asked not to be named because they are not authorized to discuss them, the 2013 remake of the game is still in its very early stages and won’t be completed for at least a few years. The Ubisoft Singapore team, one of the studios that led the development of Skull and Bones, will be actively involved in the preparation of Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Remake.

At this stage, it’s not yet clear how much of the core gameplay and systems will be improved to fit the larger form of open-world RPGs of recent big-budget Assassin’s Creed releases like Odyssey and Valhalla. But given Black Flag’s emphasis on ship-to-ship combat, one of the most popular aspects of the game, there are plenty of opportunities to turn the new version of the game into something more than just a “next-gen” remaster on the PlayStation. 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
