Uber is giving up the development of autonomous cars, selling its division

According to Reuters sources, the transaction estimates the ATG division at four billion dollars (approximately 87.5 billion CZK).

Aurora works on the development of self-driving cars and trucks. Under the agreement, Uber will acquire a 26 percent stake in Aurora and invest $ 400 million in it. Uber boss Dara Khosrowshahi will become a member of Aurora’s board.

Khosrowshahi told Reuters that the sale of the ATG division would speed up Uber’s efforts to achieve profitability. Uber sells the division after its sales were hit hard by the covidu-19 pandemic.

The founder and former head of Uber, Travis Kalanick, considered the development of self-driving cars a priority for the company and promised to reduce costs. Khosrowshahi, who replaced Kalanicka at the helm of the company in 2017, but is focusing on taxi services and food delivery as part of efforts to restore profitability, the BBC server said.
