Uber in Tenerife already offers money to taxi drivers who want to sell to the taxi sector
The transport company Uber has already arrived in the Canary Islands. Uber in Tenerife has already announced that it will start operating this Thursday, initially in the municipalities of Guía de Isora, Adeje, Arona and Granadilla de Abona, including the Sur Reina Sofía airport.
In a statement, the company indicates that it does not rule out extending this operation to other municipalities and specifies that the service includes taxi services and the “Uber Black” service, which allows booking up to 90 days in advance.
The company has launched the bait to taxi drivers to see if they bite and begin to install its application to perform services, following its strategy throughout the world.
It should be noted that there are cities like Madrid where Uber has achieved a significant share of taxi drivers associated with its application, although Barcelona is at the opposite point, where Uber since it re-entered Barcelona in July 2022 has not reached 200 associated taxis.
The hook
The transport company has thrown the bait to the taxi drivers through press releases saying that «the taxi drivers who associate with their App will have a service commission of 0% until August 31, 2023, 300 euros for each recommendation, and 150 euros when completing the first 25 journeys”, come on, something very sweet for professionals in the sector.
Uber began operating with taxis two years ago in all the major cities of the world in order to gain the trust of citizens when the Uber Files came to light, and the strategy has always been the same, offering 0 commissions and incentivizing with cash to taxi drivers who take another taxi driver to your application. But, this changes later. The commission rates are practically the same as their partner Free Now, in Move EU, up to 20 or 25% of each service.
Uber is currently operating in Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Malaga, Bilbao, Granada, Mallorca and Tenerife.
The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands sent last Tuesday a coordination letter to the seven island councils in which it recalls that in the archipelago there is a limitation of authorizations for Transport Vehicles with Driver (VTC) .
