Uber enters the marijuana market

Uber is taking its first steps in the marijuana market. In Ontario, Canada, Uber Eats users will soon be able to order cannabis products directly from the app, writes the BBC.

Unfortunately for consumers, Uber will not deliver marijuana directly to their homes. The reason is that it has been legalized in Canada since 2018, but the deliveries are still illegal.

This way, users will be able to order through the app, but will have to go to a Tokyo Smoke retailer within an hour.

Uber has long been looking for a way to enter the marijuana market, which is valued at about $ 4 billion a year in Canada. In April, CEO Dara Kosrovshahi said she would consider shipping marijuana to the United States when the law allows.

Illegal producers

Although pleasure cannabis use was legalized three years ago in Canada, much of the market is still held by illegal producers – something the government wants to end.

The market in Canada is projected to continue to grow in the coming years, with sales at BDS Analytics growing to $ 6.7 billion by 2026.
