Dr. Amr Abdel Moneim, the Uber driver’s lawyer, commented on the accusations made against the driver by Habiba Al-Shamaa’s family of attempting to kidnap her, saying: “I am sad for Habiba because she is like my daughter, and the lawyer here is not a party, but rather lists the client’s statements from the facts of the prosecution’s investigations.

He added during his intervention in the “One Last Word” program presented by media personality Lamis Al-Hadidi on ON channel: My client basically works as a driver for a businessman in my city, and he takes him some rides and fulfills his needs. He takes his personal car every day, which he bought in 2019, and leaves it in the villa while he works. With the businessman, after completing work, he returns to the “Al Barajeel” area, and on the way takes an Uber ride.

He continued: “She was an ordinary passenger, and one of her colleagues called her and her mother called her, and Mahmoud was the radio operator on the match program. She told him, please, fold the cassette and he put it down. On the Suez road, he felt cold. He closed the window, and when he felt smoke rising from the extinguisher, he sprayed perfume.”

He explained that the perfume was popular, well-known and familiar, and before he sprayed the second one, he found the door open and the girl was jumping.

He continued: “He felt confused and moved the car, and after a distance of 15 meters, he thought about returning to it to save it, but he was surprised by the gathering of people, so he ran away and called the company and told them about the incident, and the company informed him that it had received the complaint and that it was being investigated. After 2-3 kilometers, he called the company again until he reached his home and told his wife and sister by phone what had happened. He added: “On Thursday, he was sitting waiting for the investigations to come down and answer him.”

Regarding his escape, he said: “We all blame Mahmoud, under any circumstances, because he did not help her and he should have taken her to the hospital. She is certainly conscious and sane and has sufficient justifications to jump, but this does not condemn Mahmoud. He may not have looked familiar to her, and she feared those actions.”
