UBER customers move to the next level: they will drive Tesla cars – News by sources

Uber has entered into a partnership with the car rental company Herz for 50,000 Tesla cars, by 2023, intended for its drivers who offer transport services on request, Reuters reports, informs News.ro.

Starting November 1, Uber drivers will be able to rent a Tesla car through Hertz in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Washington DC, and the program will be expanded nationwide this year.

The deal was made public after Hertz announced Monday it would order 100,000 Tesla vehicles by the end of 2022, meaning the rental company’s Tesla car fleet will be reserved for Uber drivers.

The news of the largest order ever received by Tesla has led to an increase in the shares of the electric car manufacturer, whose capitalization exceeded 1 trillion dollars on Monday, a premiere for a car company.

Shares of Tesla rose 3 percent on Wednesday and shares of Uber fell 1.4 percent. Hertz shares advanced 2%.

Hertz on Wednesday announced a separate partnership with online car dealer Carvana, whose shares rose 3%.

Under the agreement, Hertz would reduce its reliance on mass auctions to get rid of used vehicles from its rental fleet and, in return, sell vehicles directly to consumers through Carvana’s sales channels.

For Uber drivers, Tesla car rentals will start at $ 334 a week, including insurance and maintenance, and will consist primarily of the company’s Model 3 sedans.

According to Uber, rental costs will drop to $ 299 a week or less as the program expands next year.

Wednesday’s agreement is Uber’s most important step so far in expanding the use of electric vehicles on its platform. The company has promised to operate only electric vehicles on its platform in the United States, Canada and Europe by 2030 and worldwide by 2040.
