Uber rides in New York City are getting more and more expensive. And it is that the average Uber trip costs more per mile in New York than in any other US city.

Uber users in the city have to shell out an average of $34.74 for an average trip of 6.2 miles, making New York the most expensive city to travel to in the United States, according to a net credit study.

The study looked at 6.2-mile runs, because that’s the equivalent of 10 kilometers.

The study comes at a time when Uber has raised prices around the world, justifying rising gas prices and a persistent shortage of drivers.

In response to the high prices of Uber, some New Yorkers are turning to taxis, the problem is that there are fewer and fewer of them since before the pandemic. In addition, the Taxi and Limousine Commission is also seeking to increase taxi fares for trips to the airport.

After New York, Nashville ranks second at $34.63 for the same tripfollowed by Denver at $33.91, Seattle at $32.63 and Baltimore at $27.27.

The study looked at prices during peak hours, weekday evenings and weekends.

Of the 30 largest US cities examined in the study, Texas had some of the cheapest travel. The average 6.2-mile trip in El Paso was just $12.56, with other identical trips costing $13 in Fort Worth, $17.87 in Dallas, $13.52 in Houston and $23.92 in Austin.

Worldwide, Switzerland’s capital Bern had the highest prices at $42.80, followed by Oslo, Norway at $32.17.; Tokyo, Japan at $30.84 dollars; Paris, France at $28.89 dollars; and Dublin, Ireland at $28.58.

The Pakistani capital of Islamabad had the cheapest trips in the world at just $1.39 per trip, followed by Nigeria’s Abuja at $2.45, India’s New Delhi at $2.47, Sri Lanka’s Colombo at $3.02, and Costa Rica’s San Jose at $3.34 dollars.

In May, Uber said it planned to add taxis to its app in New York City. Customers will pay roughly the same amount for taxi rides as for standard Uber rides.
