Governor Brad Lander and the city’s Federation of Taxi Workers are calling out Uber and Lyft for banning driver apps to circumvent payment regulations.
“The decision made by these two companies, Uber and Lyft, against the drivers just because we tried to ask for a pay increase from me does not seem fair. Uber and Lyft started with the unfair restrictions. We are in a country where that is. each of us has rights and there are laws and regulations that Uber and Lyft have to respect and they are not doing that,” said a taxi driver activist.
Lander and taxi drivers are accusing Uber and Lyft of implementing “blocking,” a practice of disconnecting drivers to increase the number of trips they take and take away from the time they take. driver waiting for the next trip.
Ride sharing apps that implement this could cheat thousands of drivers out of earning millions in revenue next year.
