UBB will have a new head: Petar Andronov – with a higher position in KBC Group

KBC Group will make a key change in the management of one of the largest banks in Bulgaria – United Bulgarian Bank (UBB), which is part of the Belgian group.

According to the official message of KBC, Step Andponov will leave the position of Chief Executive Officer of UBB, and will be replaced by Stephen Poeben, who currently leads the subsidiary of KBC in Iceland.


Following the resignation of Step Andronov, he will become a member of the Executive Committee of the group and will be replaced by the current Chief Executive Officer in the company. In addition, he will be the head of KBC Aget Management.

Petar Andronov’s appointment has been approved by the European Central Bank and the National Bank of Belgium. The changes in the bank’s management are expected to be approved by the Bulgarian National Bank as well.

The changes in the management of UBB will be discussed during the annual general meeting of the shareholders of the group, which started on May 6.

Petar Andronov is Chairman of the Management Board and Chief Executive Officer of United Bulgarian Bank after the acquisition of UBB by the Belgian financial group KBC Group in June 2017. His career at KBC Group began in July 2007, when he was appointed Executive Director of CIBANK. . In March 2008 he became Chief Executive Officer, and since March 2011 he has held the position of Country Manager of KBC Group for Bulgaria.

Petar Andronov’s professional path includes a number of positions in the private banking sector and the BNB. In the period 2002 – 2007 he was Chief Director of the Banking Supervision Department at the Bulgarian National Bank. From 2003 to May 2007 he was a member of the Management Board of the Reserve Security Fund.
