Hangzhou (China) September 24 / WAM / The UAE delegation participating in the Hangzhou Asian Games, China, achieved its first medal in the tournament through judo, which won the first two medals (silver and bronze) for the UAE in the second day’s competitions in the “Asiad”.
The two medals came from national team player Bashirat Kharoudi, who won a silver in the under-52 kg category, and her teammate Narmond Bayan, who won a bronze medal in the under-66 kg weight category.
Amal Bou Shallakh, a member of the Board of Directors of the National Olympic Committee, participated in crowning the athlete Bashirat Kharudi after the end of the competitions.
His Excellency Mohammed bin Thaloub Al Darei, President of the Emirates Judo Federation, congratulated the head and members of our delegation participating in the activities of the 19th Asian Games, on the occasion of Bashirat, our national judo player, winning the first silver medal for the National Olympic Committee delegation participating in the tournament, after she successfully surpassed all the competitions in the weight category. Under 52 kg, which took place today, Sunday, at the opening of the judo championship qualifiers, as well as the success of Narmand Bayan, the judo team player, in winning the bronze medal by defeating the champion of Uzbekistan by pinning in the under 66 kg weight.
Ibn Thaloub confirmed during his contact with the officials of the judo delegation, Nasser Al-Tamimi, Secretary General of the Federation, Treasurer of the International Judo Federation and Member of the Board of Directors of the National Olympic Committee, and Muhammad Jassim Al-Sajwani, Assistant Secretary and Administrative Officer of the Mission, that the sporting achievement achieved at the beginning of the journey is an investment in support of the wise leadership. For the youth and sports sector, the efforts of the National Olympic Committee and the General Sports Authority, the follow-up of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the efforts of the judo technical staff.

In terms of the rest of the competitions, the UAE rugby team presented an eye-catching performance at the beginning of its participation in the Asian Games, as it succeeded in achieving two major successive victories over the Nepal team 55-7, and the Afghanistan team 31-5, before losing in the last match to the country’s rugby team. The ground and the audience won the Chinese team with a score of 42-10, placing our team in second place in the fourth group, and facing its Japanese counterpart, the leader of the third group, and the winner qualifies for the semi-finals.
The chess team began its participation by competing in the individual rapid chess competition in the first round, which witnessed the loss of Rawda Al Serkal from her Indian counterpart, Dronavali, and the loss of Wafia Al-Maamari from Singaporean Jung Qianyun. In the second round, Rawda Al-Sarkal won against Korean Kim Sarang, and Wafia Al-Maamari lost from Feng Yunis from Hong Kong.
In electronic sports, the duo of our national team, Ahmed Al Suwaidi and Ali Al Hammadi, bid farewell to the “FIFA” competitions, and it remains for the team to compete in the “Game of Legends” and “Street Fighter” competitions. Zainab Al Hosani and Sheikha Al Zaabi, players of our national fencing team, also finished their participation in the individual “Epee” weapon. After the former was eliminated from the group stage, while Sheikha Al Zaabi qualified for the round of 32 after defeating Cambodian player Monica, before she was eliminated from the competition after her loss to Thai Corawan.
Tomorrow, Monday, the boxing team will witness the opening of its career in the tournament through boxer Hussein Al-Shamar, who will face his Jordanian counterpart, Ziad Ishash, in the 70 kg competition, in the competitions held at the Hangzhou Gymnasium, which is considered a direct qualifying station for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
The judo team continues its competitions, with Patso Altan competing in the under-57 kg competition, with Friese Clemence from the Republic of Laos, while our player Tilal Shavili Nogzari will face his Japanese counterpart, Ueno Yohei, in the under-81 kg competition.
The swimming team will also open its campaign tomorrow, Monday, with swimmer Maha Al Shehhi in the 200-meter freestyle competition, which will witness the participation of 23 swimmers, including swimmer Hughie Siobhan, who holds the Asian record with a time of 1:53.92 minutes. Our national team swimmer Omar Al-Hammadi will also compete in the 100-meter breaststroke race. With the participation of 28 swimmers, including Chinese Chen Haiyang, who holds the Asian record with a time of 57.69 seconds, the competitions will be held inside the Olympic Water Sports Center in Hangzhou.
Our national taekwondo team will also open its career with the participation of player Abdullah Al-Mazmi, who will face Hong Kong player Cheok Chun in the 58 kg competition. The competitions will be held at the Linan Culture and Exhibition Center.
The sailing team will continue its journey tomorrow by competing in 4 races: Elka 4 for boys by Mohammed Al Zaabi, Elka 4 for girls by Kamelia Al Qubaisi, Elka 6 by Doha Al Bishr, and Elka 7 by Adel Khaled.
The shooting team continues its competitions with shooter Abdullah Ibrahim in the 10-meter air rifle shooting competition, and the chess team competes in the individual competitions with players Rawda Al Sarkal and Wafia Al Maamari, while Al Hayam Al Balushi competes in the women’s individual fluoro competition in the fencing competition.
