A $3 billion investment deal was signed for plans for a new rail network linking the UAE to Oman.
The Oman-Etihad Rail Company, which oversees the project, has signed an agreement with Abu Dhabi’s Mubadala Investment Company for the development of the 303-km rail line. It has not yet been confirmed that the railway project will be completed.
Both passenger and freight trains will be serviced on the new route. Passenger trains run at a speed of 200 kmph and freight trains at a speed of 120 kmph.
With the implementation of the new project, the travel time between Abu Dhabi and Sohar will be reduced to 100 minutes. Also, travel time from Sohar to Al Ain will be reduced to 47 minutes.
