UAE National Team for People of Determination Arrives in Hangzhou for Asian Paralympic Games

HANGZHOU, 17th October, 2017 (WAM) – This evening, the delegation of the UAE National Team for People of Determination arrived in the Chinese city of Hangzhou to participate in the competitions of the fourth edition of the Asian Paralympic Games, in which 43 countries will participate during the period from 22 to 28 October.
The delegation was received upon its arrival by Theban Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the National Paralympic Committee, the delegation director and the delegation’s general coordinator, who had preceded the delegation to prepare to receive it.

The delegation headed to the Paralympic Village, the residence of the Hangzhou athletes, with the exception of the cycling team, which will reside in the sub-village adjacent to the city’s bicycle racing track.
On a related level, delegations from three Arab countries arrived to participate in the tournament’s competitions on the same plane that took the UAE delegation to the city of Hangzhou: Kuwait, Qatar, and Iraq.
Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, the 7 sports teams representing the Emirates will begin their training in preparation for the competitions. The beginning will be with badminton next Friday, and we will be represented by Jamal Khalifa Al-Badawi and Muhammad Ahmed Al-Zarouni.
The official opening ceremony of the tournament is scheduled to be held at the Hangzhou Park Sports Stadium on October 22.
Theban Al Muhairi explained that the UAE delegation is participating in the competitions of this tournament and its ambition is to maintain the same degree of excellence that it achieved through its previous participation (46 colored medals in 3 tournaments) and at the same time achieve the qualifying numbers for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Al Muhairi announced that the National Paralympic Committee had selected players Mohammed Al Hammadi (athletics) and Aisha Al Shamsi (archery) to carry the UAE flag in the queue of participating teams during the opening ceremony, while player Maryam Al Zeyoudi (athletics) would raise the country’s flag at the closing ceremony. Scheduled on the field itself.
Theban Al Muhairi said: “Ahmed Nawad, the athletics team player, will participate in carrying the torch for the Asian Paralympic Games, which will start next Thursday, and the player will participate in the torch relay on Saturday.
