On the 14th, the Muhammad bin Rashid Space Center (MBRSC), which oversees the UAE’s space advance program, announced that Amal entered Mars orbit and sent the first image. MBRSC explained that “Olympus Mons, the largest volcano in the solar system, was caught in the early morning sun.”

Earlier, Amal successfully entered Mars orbit on the 10th. It has been about 7 months since it was launched from the Japanese space center last July. This makes the UAE the fifth country in the world to orbit Mars after the United States, Russia, Europe and India.

On that day, UAE Prime Minister, Vice President and Dubai leader Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid Almaktoum posted a picture of Mars from Amal on his Twitter. He wrote, “A picture of Mars taken by the first probe in the history of the Arab world.”

Meanwhile, China’s Mars probe’Tianyuan-1′, launched three days later than Amal, also entered orbit on the 11th. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA)’s Perseverance is scheduled to enter Mars orbit at 5:30 am on the 19th.
