ABU DHABI, 17th July, 2020 (WAM) — HE Shihab Ahmed Al Fahim, UAE Ambassador to Japan, affirmed that the UAE and Japan have a close strategic partnership covering all fields.
Al Fahim said, in statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the occasion of the official visit of His Excellency Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan to the country, that the UAE and Japan celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between them last year, and we look forward to achieving more horizons of cooperation in the next fifty years, as the two countries attach great importance to strengthening Close friendship and close bilateral relations.
On the cooperation of the two countries during the COP28 Conference of the Parties, which is being hosted by the UAE.. His Excellency Shihab Ahmed Al Fahim said that the two countries are working to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy, especially renewable and clean, and to advance growth opportunities in the low-emissions economy, especially with the UAE hosting the twenty-eighth session of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention of Nations The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) during November 2023, which will have a major role in promoting new strategic cooperation opportunities between the two countries in the field of climate action.
On the reflection of the high-level official visits between the two friendly countries in strengthening strategic cooperation relations, HE Shehab Ahmed Al Fahim said that the continuous and mutual visits of the leaderships of the two countries reflect the joint keenness to advance aspects of bilateral cooperation and elevate it to new levels and horizons. This visit comes within the framework of the existing strong relations between the two countries, and in the course of strengthening them for the benefit of the two friendly countries and peoples.
With regard to the most important areas of current cooperation between the UAE and Japan, His Excellency Shihab Ahmed Al Fahim said that the relations between the UAE and Japan have maintained their continuous growth since their establishment in 1972, with the support of the wise leadership in both countries and their keenness to strengthen cooperation and strategic partnership in various fields.
Al-Fahim added that bilateral cooperation between the two countries is expanding to include many different fields such as aviation, tourism, space, culture, education, medical services and the environment, and great achievements have been made in all these fields.
He pointed out that the UAE is the second largest oil exporter to Japan and an important source for supplying it with natural gas and aluminum.
Regarding the number of Emirati students on scholarships to study in Japan and the most prominent areas of cooperation in the education sector, His Excellency Shihab Ahmed Al Fahim, the number of Emirati students currently studying in various Japanese universities (such as Ritsumeikan University – Waseda University – Tokai University) is about 64 students enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s programs and PhDs in various engineering disciplines, computer science and artificial intelligence.
He added that the Department of Education and Knowledge offers Emirati students studying in private schools (the Japanese curriculum) in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi a scholarship program to study the general secondary stage in Japan.
