The said punishment is in the context of spreading fake news in such a way as to create a sense of outrage in the public against government institutions, national independence and the public health sector. Otherwise, spreading fake news is a crime punishable by a fine of Dh100,000 and imprisonment for one year, the UAE said in a new reminder.
Fake news campaigns include circulating or recirculating fake news, misinformation, misleading or false news. The UAE also clarifies that spreading rumors and false reports contrary to official announcements is a serious offense punishable by severe punishment.
