Dubai, September 8 / WAM / His Excellency Sheikh Engineer Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, President of the Asian, Arab and Emirati Federations, and member of the Executive Office of the International Fencing Federation, confirmed that the UAE’s hosting of the Asian Pioneers Championship competitions, for the first time, represents a kind of building bridges of communication between the different generations of the game.
The UAE Fencing Federation hosted the tournament at the Ras Al Khaimah Exhibition Center, from September 6 to 8, with the participation of 140 male and female players from 14 Asian countries.
Sheikh Engineer Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi was keen to attend the championship competitions, meet the participating players, and crown the winners.
He said, “The participants in this tournament presented distinguished levels in the three weapons – the epee, the saber, and the fluorescent – over the course of 3 days, and they confirmed, as former champions of the continent, that they maintained their high skills and potential.”
He pointed out that the participation of this number of pioneering players in the first edition in the Emirates is evidence of the value and status of the Emirates, which works diligently to enhance the value of sports in general and fencing in particular.
He added, “The UAE’s hosting of this type of tournament supports the sport of fencing and embodies the vision of the Emirati and Asian federations in the necessity of building bridges of communication between the different generations of the game.”
Sheikh Engineer Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi thanked everyone who contributed to the success of the tournament, led by the Ras Al Khaimah Exhibition Center, the Ras Al Khaimah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the organizing committee and all the entities and institutions that contributed to the organization, and the heads and members of the committees, who took it upon themselves to present a major continental championship in this regard. The level is under pure Emirati management.
He explained that the generation of pioneers are the real heroes behind the success of the tournament, thanks to their eagerness to participate, their wonderful performance, and their devotion to the sport of fencing over time.
