HANGZHOU, 23rd October, 2017 (WAM) – UAE girls will make their first appearance, tomorrow, Tuesday, in the Asian Paralympic Games, currently being held in Hangzhou, by participating in the athletics team on the second day of the tournament.
Three girls are participating in the team, which includes 8 male and female players, in 4 competitions. Noura Al Ketbi, Dhikra Al Kaabi, and Shamma Al Mazmi participate in the women’s “F32” club throwing competition.
While Omair Younis participates in the discus throw competition in the “F55” category, Badr Al Hosani in the 1500 meter finals in the “T54” category, and the 100 meter qualifiers for the same category “T54,” and the trio of Mohammed Al-Qayed, Mohammed Othman and Ahmed Nawad in the final of the 800 meter race in the “T54” category. T34”.
In shooting, Yasser Al-Darai participates in the 10-meter air pistol competition in the “SH1” category, and Abdullah Al-Ahbabi and Saif Al-Dhaheri participate in the 50-meter rifle competition, lying down, in the “SH2” category.
In bow and arrow, Mohammed Al Shehhi participates in the knockout rounds of the men’s open bow singles competition, category “W2”.
The badminton team is competing in the final stage of the men’s singles competition.
In terms of the results of the competitions that took place today, Monday, in athletics, Badr Al Hosani qualified for the finals of the 1500 meter race for the “T54” category, as the best place in his group’s qualifiers, while he finished sixth in the final of the 5000 meter race for the same category, achieving a time of 10:35.15 minutes. While Thailand’s Parawat Wahuram won first place with a time of 10:33.67 minutes, achieving the gold medal.
Mohamed Al-Qayed came fourth in the final of the men’s 100-meter race, “T34” category, recording a time of 15.86 seconds, in the race that was won by Thai Chaiwat Ratana, achieving a time of 15.18 seconds, and Mohamed Othman came sixth and Ahmed Nawad seventh.
In shooting, Obaid Al-Dahmani came fifth in the final of the 10-meter standing rifle competition, “SH1” category, achieving 181.3 points, while his colleague Abdullah Saif Al-Ariani came eighth with 118.1 points, after the two players before that had successfully qualified from the qualifiers.
In bow and arrow, Mohammed Al Shehhi collected 568 points in the first round qualifiers for the combined individual competitions in the “W2” category.
In badminton, in the men’s singles competition, in the “WH2” category, Muhammad Al-Zarouni lost to Chinese Sen Shao, with a score of 0/2, and Jamal Al-Badwawi lost to Japanese Osamu Nagashima in the “WH1” category with the same score.
For his part, His Excellency Mohammed Fadel Al Hameli, Chairman of the National Paralympic Committee and head of the delegation, stressed that participation in this edition of the Asian Paralympic Games is a major milestone for evaluating sports for people of determination in the Emirates.
He said, “In addition to the desire to compete and win medals, the Asian Games are an important milestone for us that contribute to qualifying for the Paralympic Games. They also contribute to evaluating our champions and determining their ranking on the continent level.”
He added, “We have high hopes of participating during this edition, especially through specialized sports, and through a group of champions of great importance and previous careers that enhance their chances.”
Al Hameli expressed his admiration for the level of organization of the tournament in Hangzhou, and said, “China provides a distinguished model in the efficiency of organization and provision of facilities for sports for people of determination.”
He added that the clear increase in the level of organization of the Asian Paralympic Games, one version after another, is due to Majid Al-Osaimi, Chairman of the Asian Paralympic Committee, and Tariq Al-Suwaiei, Executive Director of the Committee, and their constructive and persistent efforts in this regard, which contributed to the growing interest from all Asian countries in these Games.
Regarding the UAE’s ability to organize the Asian Paralympic Games, he said, “The UAE is already organizing tournaments at the highest level, such as the Fazza International Championships for People of Determination, which qualifies for the Paralympic tournaments, in which a large number of world champions, not just from Asia, participate. Therefore, organizing the Asian Games will not be difficult.” .
In a related context, the Executive Office elections will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, to elect the representative of West Asia in the Asian Paralympic Committee for the 2023-2027 session, and the candidate in it is the Emirati Dr. Abdul Razzaq Ahmed Bani Rashid, President of the West Asia Region for the previous two sessions, and who is competing for the same seat from Kuwaiti Saud Al-Mutairi.
Dr. Abdul Razzaq expressed his aspirations to renew his membership for the third session in the Executive Office to work on developing the gains achieved over the previous two sessions in the West Asia region.
He said, “During the past period, the office was interested in raising the technical level of sports for people of determination in the region by organizing many qualifying and classification courses for referees, and development courses for technical and training crews, as well as supporting the countries of the region in holding and organizing tournaments financially and technically.”
