UAE Elected as Member of United Nations Statistical Commission: First Time in History

The United Nations has elected the UAE as a member of the Statistical Committee, one of the eight technical committees attached to the Organization’s Economic and Social Council, for its next session 2025-2028, in a membership that is ‘ a first of its kind for the group. state since the committee was established in 1946.
The country’s selection for membership in the United Nations Statistical Commission supports efforts to increase the UAE’s participation in international initiatives, and provides an international platform for the UAE’s advanced models to sharing, which will improve the efficiency and accuracy of statistical analysis worldwide, and support the establishment of digital platforms for data exchange.
The Statistical Commission, whose membership includes 24 countries elected by the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, represents the pinnacle of the global statistical system and the highest body that provides together senior statisticians and experts in statistical activities, developing statistical standards, and continuing to implement them at national and international levels.
Hanan Mansour Ahli, Director of the Federal Center for Competitiveness and Statistics, confirmed that the UAE’s election to membership in the United Nations Statistical Commission embodies the UAE’s leadership in the digital transformation of the statistical system, and the positive global position it has reached, and translates the focus of the wise leadership on contributing to the effective participation of the country in modernizing the work of the Government in general, and increasing the capabilities of the statistical department at national levels and international.
Hanan Ahli said that the statistical system in the UAE, with the support of local statistical institutions, uses technology, digital solutions and artificial intelligence methods, and has changed the system from a mere collector of information and data, to be an integrated system to support strategy. designing and innovating proactive solutions to anticipated challenges, relying on a scientific and practical methodology in data analysis.
She pointed out that the country’s membership in the United Nations Statistical Commission will be an important platform for sharing distinguished Emirati experiences and exchanging statistical knowledge with countries with the best experiences in this field.
Mohammed Hassan, Executive Director of the Department of Statistics and Data Science at the Center, confirmed that the selection of the UAE as the only country in the Gulf in the United Nations Statistical Commission shows its effective role in developing solutions for use data to support the achievement of global sustainable development goals, through the adoption of the Regional Center for the United Nations Platform. big data and artificial intelligence techniques in developing the statistics sector.
