UAE Detects First, Second Monkeypox Case in Middle East

ABU DHABI United Arab Emirates (UAE) becomes first Gulf country to declare case monkey pox on Tuesday (24/5/2022), insisted it was “fully prepared” to deal with any outbreak.

UAE is believed to be a country Middle East second after Israel detecting monkeypox, a disease whose emergence in a number of countries has caused concern after the pandemic virus Corona .

The Ministry of Health and Prevention said the case was found in a 29-year-old woman who arrived from West Africa and is currently receiving medical treatment.

“We have implemented appropriate mechanisms to diagnose suspected patients,” said a ministry statement.

“The technical advisory team for pandemic control has also prepared comprehensive guidelines for surveillance, early detection of the disease, management of clinically infected patients, and preventive measures,” the statement continued. Al ArabyWednesday (25/5/2022).

According to the UAE daily The National, the ministry said the woman diagnosed with monkeypox was a visitor or a tourist.

Monkeypox, which is usually not fatal, can cause fever, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes, chills, fatigue, and a chickenpox-like rash on the hands and face.
