UAE Delegation Enhances Cooperation at Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition ADEX 2023

Seoul, October 20 / WAM / Her Excellency Sarah bint Yousef Al Amiri, Minister of State for Public Education and Advanced Technology, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Space Agency, headed the UAE delegation, with the participation of representatives of local and private entities in the country, at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition “ADEX 2023”, one of The most important exhibitions and events in East Asia, which brings together an elite group of senior officials, decision-makers and specialists in the field of space and defense, and is held at Seoul International Airport until October 22.
The delegation included His Excellency Ibrahim Al Qasim, Deputy Director General of the Agency, Engineer Abdullah Khalifa Al Marar, Head of the Space Projects Management Department at the Emirates Space Agency, Tariq Al Hashimi, Director of the Technology Adoption and Development Department at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, and Dr. Prashanth Marbu, Vice President for Research and Development. At Bayanat, Engineer Khaled Al-Awadhi, Head of Advanced Programs from Yahsat, Engineer Rawda Al-Balushi, Director of Project Management at EDGE, and Dr. Felix is ​​responsible for research and development in the fields of high-energy electromagnetic sources at the Technological Innovation Institute.
This participation, meetings, and expanded meetings with the Korean side, including meetings with officials, companies, and governmental and private institutions, aim to enhance cooperation, strategic relations, and exchange of experiences in the field of aviation and space between the UAE and the Republic of Korea, in addition to the continuous endeavor to develop the UAE space sector, which currently includes more than 80 companies. Operating in the sector in all its fields, from manufacturing satellites, analyzing space data and its uses, communication services, as well as research and development in the space and advanced technology sectors.
Her Excellency Sarah Al Amiri said: “Our participation in the Seoul International Space and Defense Exhibition represents an important step towards enhancing cooperation and sustainable partnerships with the leading global entities in the field of space and defense, especially with the Republic of Korea, given the current long and ongoing relations, and to discuss future opportunities that support the space and technology sectors in the country.” UAE”.
She added: “Strengthening strategic relations with the Korean space sector, which began since the beginning of the renaissance of the space sector in the UAE, is one of our priorities, as several discussions have taken place with prominent governmental or private space agencies and institutions there.”
She continued: “In the context of strengthening and consolidating these partnerships, we looked for building new horizons in terms of developing platforms for space data in cooperation with local entities in the country such as a data company and creating opportunities for cooperation in the “Sirb” project concerned with the manufacture of radar satellites on the other hand, and these partnerships will allow… Increased use of launch services for UAE projects and ease of access to them.”
The UAE delegation undertook an extensive tour to explore the latest technologies and learn about the latest innovations and capabilities available in the Republic of Korea, and met with a number of senior officials from leading companies in this field of space, including: Hanwha Aerospace, and the Korean Aerospace Industries Association (KAIA).
The delegation held a series of meetings with the Korea Space Research Institute (KARI), the Korea Aerospace Industries Corporation (KAI), and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), to discuss the latest developments in radar satellites (SAR), and the participation of the Korean private sector in the exhibition. Dubai Aviation 2023, as well as a general discussion on potential areas of cooperation and common interests between the two sides.
The delegation met with His Excellency Lee Jong-ho, Minister of Science, Information and Communications Technology of Korea; The two sides reviewed areas of joint cooperation in space science, space technology and their applications, in addition to exchanging views on space policies, laws and regulations related to it, and human development in the field of space and related fields.
The meeting also touched on the importance of enhancing cooperation between the space industries, private sector development, and supporting emerging companies in the UAE and Korea by providing opportunities for both parties to invest in existing and future projects.
It is noteworthy that the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition is held every two years, and provides many distinct opportunities for government and private institutions, those interested and specialists in aviation and defense, and senior officials in the field of defense. It is also considered a unique station for exchanging experiences and technologies in these two vital fields.
