UAE Celebrates Graduation of First Emirati Astronauts from NASA Astronaut Program 2021

Today, the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center celebrates a new achievement with the graduation of Noura Al Matroushi, the first Emirati astronaut, and Mohammed Al Mulla, in the “NASA Astronaut Program 2021”, where they will be awarded the astronaut badge after passing a series of intensive training and various tasks over the course of more than Two years, and upon their graduation, the UAE will have a national team consisting of 4 astronauts qualified for spaceflights, including missions to the International Station, future commercial destinations, and missions to the moon, and then to Mars.

The graduation ceremony will be held at the Johnson Space Center in the United States of America, and the astronauts of the “NASA” training program for the year 2021, which includes Mohammed Al-Mulla and Noura Al-Matroushi, along with 10 other astronauts, will be awarded an astronaut badge, which indicates that he has graduated and is well qualified to undertake missions. Space in the future, and support the process of global exploration.

The graduation ceremony for members of the second batch of the Emirates Astronaut Program comes after they received various training that included how to manage various tasks on the International Space Station, training on spacewalk missions outside the station, and staying for long periods on the international station, in addition to training on the main systems of the station, and controlling the spacecraft. Robotics, training to fly T-38 aircraft, Russian language skills, and other training that included survival courses on land and water, and various physical exercises, making them qualified to carry out various space missions.
