The delegation of the first national basketball team left today, Monday, for Qatar, to participate in the “Doha” international championship, which begins tomorrow and extends until February 17, with the participation of the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia teams.
The technical director of the national teams, Dr. Mounir bin Al-Habib, said: “The team’s participation in (Doha International), came at the invitation of the Qatar Basketball Association, in a new station of (Al-Abyad) preparation for the important merit in the second window of the Asian qualifiers, which it hosts. Doha also during the period from 20 to 22 February.
He explained: “The national team returned yesterday from its external camp in (Turkey), which lasted for six days, in the second main preparation station, after (Al-Abyad) participated in the Dubai International Championship during the period from January 27 to February 5, to include the team’s mission to Doha. Most of the players who participated in (Dubai International) enjoyed being in Turkey’s foreign camp.
He added: “Tomorrow, Tuesday, the national team will launch its first match in (Doha International) by meeting the host (Al-Annabi) of Qatar, followed by the Saudi (Al-Akhdar) meeting on the 17th of this month. The second of the Asian qualifiers, in which we meet the teams of Kuwait, Iraq and Palestine.
He concluded: “Our ambitions are great to continue what we achieved in the first window of the qualifiers, and to qualify among the first four teams to the third and decisive window, which is scheduled for next November, especially since (Al-Abyad) enters the second window and shares the three-point balance with his Iraqi brother, and is behind by a point difference. The Palestinian and the two participating countries are in the lead with four points each, and the national team is one point ahead of each of Kuwait and Oman, who are participating in the balance of two points and the last place.
