UAE Banks Limiting Payments to Russians Due to Fear of Sanctions

The Emirates are limiting payments to Russians due to fears of restrictive measures introduced against the aggressor country.

Large banks in the United Arab Emirates have begun to limit settlements with the Russian Federation and are closing accounts of clients from the “secure” country due to the risk of receiving secondary sanctions, reports “Reviewer” with reference to Russian media.

It is reported that UAE financial institutions have stopped accepting money from the Russian Federation, as well as making reverse payments.

Experts emphasize that it is still possible for Russians to open an account in UAE banks, but this takes considerable time due to the fact that Russia is on a special list with the authorities of the Arab country.

Payments with Russia have become difficult due to sanctions imposed on Akbars Bank, which was previously the main channel for payments. According to a source from the Russian government, the Russian authorities are aware of the problem, but believe that it is supposedly “solvable.”

It is known that foreign banks began to tighten policies towards Russian clients after the publication of a decree by US President Joseph Biden in December last year. The mentioned document made it possible to impose penalties on banks for violating anti-Russian restrictive measures in a simplified manner.

As previously reported, the UAE sheikhs urgently blocked the way for Putin’s “shadow fleet”.

Let us remember that India decided purchase additional shipments of Saudi oil after a reduction in supplies from the Russian Federation caused by payment problems.
