UAE Athletes Carry Flag at Opening Ceremony of 19th Asian Games

HANGZHOU, 22nd September / WAM / Ahmed Al Mansouri, player of our national cycling team, and Ghaya Shuhail Al Shuhail, thrower of the UAE national team, carry the UAE flag at the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games, which begin tomorrow and whose competitions will continue until next October 8th, with the participation of 12,000 athletes from 45 Asian countries. .
Throughout the UAE’s participation in previous editions of the tournament, since the 1978 Bangkok edition, science has not lost its presence in the Grand Continental Forum.
The opening ceremony of the tournament will begin at 4:00 pm UAE time, at the “Big Lotus” Olympic Stadium in Hangzhou, with a capacity of 80,000 spectators.
The headquarters of the Sports Village in Hangzhou witnessed the UAE flag raising ceremony at the Asian Games.
The sailing competitions continued for the second day in a row with the Elka 6 girls’ Olympic category competition, played by Doha Al Bishr, and Adel Khaled also participated in the Elka 7 competition in the men’s Olympic category.
In the competitions that began before the official opening, Hamad Al Matroushi, the player of our national rowing team, bid farewell to the tournament after participating in the individual rowing competition and being excluded from the list of finalists.
Qais Al-Dhali, a member of the Board of Directors of the National Olympic Committee, confirmed that UAE sports aspires to rise to the podium in several sports in this edition, and to increase the number of medals compared to the previous edition, “Jakarta 2018”, in which UAE athletes achieved 13 colorful medals.
Al-Dhali said: “We have several sports that we are betting on to get medals, including jiu-jitsu, judo, and cycling, and we will compete strongly in rugby because our ranking is second in Asia.”
Nasser Al-Tamimi, Secretary-General of the Judo Federation and a member of the Board of Directors of the National Olympic Committee, confirmed that the judo team is aiming to win the Asian Games and that it is fully prepared and seeks to increase its score of points in the race to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
He added: “We thank the General Sports Authority and the National Olympic Committee for the participation of this large number of athletes, which reflects the image of the Emirates and interest in sports. The greater the number of participants, the greater our chances of achieving better results. We expect 5 or 6 female athletes to win medals in this tournament.” Asia, which is a positive thing for us.”
