UAE and Scotland Sign MOU to Boost Technology, Innovation, and Vocational Education Partnerships

Abu Dhabi, October 25 / WAM / The UAE and Scotland signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at establishing partnerships between the private and academic sectors in the fields of technology, innovation and vocational education.

The agreement is designed to enhance cooperation in priority sectors, such as clean energy and artificial intelligence, and is a direct result of the efforts of the joint working group between the UAE and Scotland, which was formed last year to develop areas of mutual interest.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by His Excellency Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, and His Excellency Neil Gray, Secretary-General of the Scottish Council of Ministers for the Welfare Economy, Fair Work and Energy, during their meeting in Abu Dhabi, in which they discussed ways to develop trade and investment opportunities between the two countries.

His Excellency Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi stressed that the signing of the memorandum of understanding is an additional important step in the process of friendly relations between the UAE and Scotland.

His Excellency added: “The UAE and Scotland have many commonalities, as they benefit from technology, innovation, investment and talent to diversify their economy and achieve new successes. As the UAE seeks to build a knowledge economy capable of keeping pace with the future, it is important to exchange visions, expertise and experiences with countries that adopt trends.” “Similar development development and the launching of joint initiatives in the governmental, private and academic sectors would enhance the country’s ambitions with regard to diversifying economic resources. In this context, the memorandum of understanding reflects the common will to consolidate cooperation between the UAE and Scotland, and build a partnership that benefits both parties in the long term.”

In turn, His Excellency Neil Gray said: “We welcome the signing of the memorandum of understanding aimed at continuing to develop the close relations between Scotland and the UAE.”

He added: “The importance of cooperation with the UAE to deepen our economic relations and achieve our common goals in the field of green energy and others is increasing now more than ever, and we look forward to the memorandum of understanding helping to achieve a more sustainable and prosperous economy for both sides.”

It is noteworthy that the UAE and Scotland have growing economic relations, as the volume of non-oil trade in 2022 reached more than 870 million dollars, an increase of 70% compared to 2021, as Scotland exported goods worth 503 million dollars to the Emirates, which represents 8.6 million dollars. % of total UK exports to the UAE.

In recent years, the two countries have also implemented a number of strategic investments, including Masdar’s 25% stake in Hywind Scotland, and a 30 MW floating offshore wind farm in the North Sea.
