- The memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries
Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Investment in the UAE and the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport in the Republic of Azerbaijan signed a memorandum of understanding, with the aim of enhancing joint cooperation, to facilitate investments in the field of digital infrastructure, with a focus on raising the efficiency and development of data centers in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on the UAE side by His Excellency Mohammed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Minister of Investment of the UAE, and on the Azerbaijani side by His Excellency Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Data centers are components of the basic digital infrastructure of countries, as they provide secure spaces to store important data and run applications.
During recent years, the Republic of Azerbaijan has taken concrete steps to advance the digital economy, by enhancing the centralization of electronic services and the digitization of public services. The Azerbaijani government also pays great attention to digital transformation as one of the most important priorities within the country’s social and economic strategy.
It is expected that the number of data centers in Azerbaijan will witness a significant increase, as a result of cooperation and joint efforts established by the memorandum of understanding with the UAE.
To ensure close and influential cooperation, one of the main aspects of the memorandum is to build strategic relationships between government and private sector institutions in the UAE and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The memorandum of understanding also proposes providing competitive incentives for relevant initiatives and facilitating the exchange of experience and knowledge.
In this regard, His Excellency Mohammed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Minister of Investment of the UAE, said: “This memorandum coincides with our joint efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries, to support the growth of the digital economy, within the framework of our focus on mutually beneficial initiatives, and our commitment in the UAE to providing added value.” To our strategic partners, the UAE continues to explore and benefit from growth opportunities to enhance progress in various vital sectors that constitute a better tomorrow for future generations.”
It is worth noting that the bilateral relations between the UAE and the Republic of Azerbaijan, since its inception in 1992, have maintained their strength and upward trend, while trade activity between the two countries has witnessed remarkable growth over the past five years.
For his part, His Excellency Rashad Nabiyev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, said: “Today, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Investment of the UAE signed a memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation in data center projects, through which we look forward to contributing to strengthening the infrastructure.” Azerbaijan’s digital infrastructure and expanding cooperation between our countries in this field.”
