Sweden was ready for revenge in the U20 WC during today’s semi-final match against Hungary. The desire for revenge and the will were there, but once again it was Hungary that put a stop to blue-yellow gold dreams.

Sweden and Hungary offered an even and exciting semi-final in the final stages of the U20 WC. Blågult took a nice grip on the match in the beginning, and after 15 minutes of play had a lead of 8-5. The disadvantage led to a Hungarian timeout, which had an effect. The favorites caught up, and then passed. Sweden had a chance for an equalizer in the final second of the half, but the Hungarian goalkeeper made a nice save (15-14 to Hungary).

Sweden got off to a good start in the second half, and was quickly back in the lead. In the middle of the half, however, trolls began to appear in the Swedish attacking game. What used to go well, suddenly looked a little more combative. Anna Bukovszky made several fantastic saves in the Hungarian goal and Johanna Farkas was unstoppable going forward.

Sweden fought for a long time in the battle for a final place, but with ten minutes left to play, the win began to slip out of the hands of the Swedes. A Swedish goal drought in the final minutes meant that Hungary could win 33-25. The win means that Hungary has now stopped Sweden’s gold dreams in the last three championships for this year’s litter.

Johanna Farkas accounted for eleven of Hungary’s 33 goals. Farkas was also named the best player of the match. Tyra Axnér was the best in Sweden with six hits.

Today’s result means that Hungary will face Norway in Sunday’s final (17:30). For Sweden, the Netherlands are waiting for a bronze match, where blue and yellow can thus get revenge from the previous loss in the championship. The bronze match is played at 15:00.
