The coach of the Slovak under-20 hockey team, Ivan Feneš, finalized the roster before the start of the WC of this age category. The Slovak national team also completed its first training session on the ice of the Avenir Center, where everyone feared Sýkor’s injury.
On Sunday, the Slovakian under-20 national team completed its first training session at the Avenir Center stadium, which is the home stand of the Moncton Wildcats club operating in the QMJHL youth competition. The captain of the hockey team had 22 skaters and three goalkeepers at his disposal.
The defenders were missing Marian Mosko, Boris Zabka and striker Tim Danielchakwho have learned they will not make the Slovakian roster at the under-20 world championship. “We said goodbye to them forever” the coach said Ivan Fenes for the portal hockeyslovakia.sk.
His selection has three goalkeepers, six defenders and twelve forwards at his disposal. The roster can contain a maximum of 23 players, while two more can intervene in the tournament in case someone gets injured in Slovakia.
“Today we also had a joint team photo in the program, so it was more difficult for the players to start the first training session in Moncton. However, they gradually caught up and in the end it was of great quality. The hall is beautiful , typical Canadian. We’re getting used to the environment a bit, but I think we’ll be fine.” Fenes thinks.
As the official website of the Slovak Ice Hockey Association reports, an unfortunate situation occurred during Sunday’s training session that scared everyone, including coach Feneš.
Support and star of the Slovakian team Adam Sykor a rebounded puck hit his head and the talented 18-year-old forward was on the ice longer. In the end, all went well, as his injury was said to be minor and only required a few stitches in his right ear.

The Under-20 Hockey World Championship begins on Monday, December 26, with the first four games. Slovakia await their first tournament at 17:00 CET on Tuesday when they cross hockey sticks with Finland.
