With 32 points, Canadian ice hockey player Connor Bedard surpassed Eric Lindros’ national record for the number of points at the World Junior Championships.
The 17-year-old striker scored two goals and an assist in the quarter-final against the Slovakia national team. He helped his team win 4:3 after extra time and advance to the semi-finals.
“3-on-3 extra time is always interesting and everyone has the chance to help the team achieve victory. The match was very dramatic because Slovakia has a good team and they played better than in preparation before the tournament. We have to underline the performance of the Slovaks, but luckily we found a way to do it”, Bedard told hockeycanada.ca.
The youngster, who according to experts will be a draft pick, already has a total of 34 points at the World Juniors. He still loses 8 points against the Swedish absolute leader Petr Forsberg. Bedard also broke three more Canadian records when he got past Pats Jordan Eberle with his 15th goal, then added the game-winner to bring his total to sixteen. At the same time, he also has the most points (21) and assists (13) in a tournament.
