In Group A in Halifax, although the Austrians were happy with the first goals they scored in the tournament, when in their previous three appearances they scored a menacing score of 0:31, it still didn’t lead to success, even though they overcame the Germans ( 33:27 ).
The Germans built a three-goal lead at the end of the 27th minute, which proved to be decisive in the 4:2 victory. Thomas Heigl scored the winning goal not long after Austrian Jonas Dobnig missed a free kick. The Germans will move from fourth place, the order of the top three will be decided only by the final matches.
In Moncton the Slovaks defeated the Latvians 3:0 in group B, thus resuming their previous triumph over the American favorites (6:3) and gaining the certainty of passing. Adam Gajan defended goal with 27 saves, goals were scored by Alex Čiernik, Šimon Nemec and Filip Mešár.
In addition to the teams of Slovakia and the USA, Finland and Switzerland will play in the playoffs, but also the order in the standings will be decided only by the last duels in the group.
Austria and Latvia will compete with two consecutive victories.
