The money will be used to support healthcare workers and to buy personal protective equipment for doctors.
Some of the U2-funded medical equipment has already arrived at Dublin Airport, according to the Irish TV channel RTE.
Other companies have also taken part in the campaign to purchase medical equipment.
Their efforts were praised by Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. “The government has ordered personal protective equipment that would normally be available for delivery for 13 years. Anyway, any help from the private sector and the public is welcome,” the prime minister said on Twitter.
In Ireland, almost 6,000 people have been infected with the Covid-19 virus, and 235 have died, according to the latest government figures.
