U19 footballers will go to the EC qualifying tournament in Croatia

The Latvian U19 indoor football team will meet on Saturday to go to the main round of the 2022 European Championship qualifiers in Croatia, where our young people will have to compete with their home team and Azerbaijan, the Latvian Football Federation (LFF) reports.

It includes players from six home clubs. The team will train in Riga over the weekend, but will go to Croatia on Monday. In the first game, the Latvian national team will meet with Azerbaijan on March 18, and a day later with Croatia. Both matches will start at 18:00 Latvian time. Belarus was also scheduled to participate in the tournament, but this team will not take part in the competition.

In the main event, the teams are divided into seven subgroups. The winner of each group will earn a place in the final tournament in Spain in September. In January, the Latvian national team played a test game tournament in Croatia, beating Belgium (3: 1), the San Marino adult national team (3: 2) and Slovenia (5: 2), but conceding to France (3: 6). In February, two test matches against Poland were played in Salaspils – 2: 2 and 0: 3. This is the second European Championship tournament for U-19 indoor football teams. The first ended in 2019 with the final tournament in Riga, where Spain won Croatia.
