“Making the final nomination is always a challenging step, but in our current situation it has been made even more difficult by the circumstances due to the ongoing playoff battles,” SR 18 coach Ivan Feneš stated at Saturday’s press conference.

“We really wanted Simon and Adam to play in the tournament. Simon can spring up the cabin and our power play, Adam is the heartmaker who will leave everything on ice. And since he comes from Piešťany, we wanted to give him the opportunity to play for the national team at home ice and in front of full stands.

We agreed with the management of HK Nitra that if we need, we can use both players only in Tuesday’s fight against Norway. It is important to add that, despite the situation, we trust the staff we have here. The strength of our team is great. The names in the final nomination speak for themselves. We are clearly moving forward. “

He currently has 23 skaters and three goalkeepers on the final nomination list. However, a maximum of 22 hockey players, including two goalkeepers, can register for the tournament roster. “It will be a difficult decision. We will fill 18 or 19 places out of 22 in Sunday’s directorate. We will keep two in reserve for the Germans with Sýkora and one for Juraj Slafkovský in case the Finnish League playoff semi-final series for his club TPS Turku does not develop. favorable, “ said Feneš for hockeyslovakia.sk.

The creation of the final nomination was accompanied by several circumstances. One of the key factors was Friday’s PCR testing before the start of the championship, which turned out well and all players and members of the implementation team had a negative result. After testing, the coaches divided the staff by three players – defender Matej Tomas and forward Jakub Ružek with Adam Ondriš. Ján Urban was replaced by Samuel Urban.

The Slovak “eighteen” played four meetings in the final preparations for the World Cup. First she outclassed the Hungarian “nineteen” 9: 1, then she lost 3: 4 in a double match with her Czech peers and won 3: 1, and finally she lost to the Blue Wings of Slovan 4: 5 in the general championship.

The A-group tournament of the 1st Division of the Under-18 World Championships will start in Piešťany on Monday, April 11. The Slovaks will play in Japan in their opening match at 7 pm. They will then be invited by Norwegians on Tuesday, by the French on Thursday, by Danish on Friday and by representatives of Kazakhstan on Easter Sunday. The two best teams will advance to the elite category of the World Cup.
