U17 women’s football team EC qualifier starts with a loss to Turkey

The Latvian U17 women’s soccer team started the qualifying tournament of the European Championship in Turkey on Sunday with a loss. The Latvian national team conceded to Romania with 1: 3 (1: 0).

The first half was completed by the Latvians, for whom Monta Ščuka scored 1: 0 in the 18th minute after Santa Sanija Vuškāne’s pass. In the second half, the Romanians responded with three goals, winning. Anamarija Philip scored two goals in their favor in the 51st and 65th minutes, but in the 61st minute an 11-meter penalty shot was taken by Clara Rosh.

In the group’s first game on Thursday, Romania played 2: 2 (2: 0) with the Turkish hosts. The group, led by four points in two games, has Romanians. Turkey has one point in one fight, but Latvia has no points after Sunday’s match. On Wednesday, in the last game of the group, Latvia will meet with peers from Turkey at 6 pm in Manavgat.

It has already been reported that the Latvian U17 women’s soccer team left for the 2022 European Championship qualification round tournament in Turkey on Friday. At the introduction of the training camp, two cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the team and in the coaching corps. Therefore, ten players were changed in the team. The selection is led by Liene Vāciete, assisted by Daniels Sērmoliņš.

At the same time, the competition takes place both in the format of the UEFA League of Nations, with the strongest teams playing in League A, and those below in the B League, and as a qualification for the 2022 final. The Latvian national team competes in the fifth subgroup of the B league. The winner of the group and the best of the winners of the second position will qualify for the strongest or A league, from which there will be an opportunity to win a place in the final tournament. The second round of qualification will be held in the spring of 2022. For the U-17 teams, the final tournament with eight teams will take place next May in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
