U16: Lucerne U16 loses hard-fought game in Bern

On the third match day, the Lucerne U16s travelled to Bern. The Lucerne team managed to keep the opening phase even against the league leaders. However, two serious errors in defence meant that they were already 2-0 behind after 10 minutes. However, after 20 minutes, they found their way back into the game thanks to a converted penalty from Eris Gashi, and were able to make offensive pinpricks. At the half-time whistle, YB were able to regain their two-goal lead with a counterattack.

But Lucerne did not give up and played hard after the break to score. Nikola Gutovic scored after 62 minutes. Just 4 minutes later, Gutovic scored the celebrated equaliser. The last 25 minutes saw a balanced game with chances on both sides. Shortly before the end of the game, YB had the happier ending. A free kick that was blocked too short found its way into the goal via a long-range shot that hit the post to give Bern the lead. Lucerne threw everything forward again, but conceded goal number 5 in injury time and thus left the field as losers. A game in which more would have been possible with more determination in attack and more defensive consistency.
