The U.S. Supreme Court hears the appeal of former President Trump’s eligibility to run for president.
In December last year, the Colorado Supreme Court cited Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution and ruled that Trump was disqualified from participating in the Colorado Republican primary because of his participation in the Capitol insurrection. Trump refused to accept the ruling and appealed to the Federal Supreme Court.
Lawyers representing Trump argue that the Colorado courts have no power to enforce the relevant constitutional provisions and that the president is not bound by this provision. Both conservative and liberal justices have expressed concerns or doubts about whether states have the authority to take actions to influence the presidential election.
There are reports that based on the position of the justices, the Federal Supreme Court is likely to make a ruling in favor of Trump, and it is expected that the ruling will be announced before the 5th of next month.
