U.S. stocks lower at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average down 1.02%
Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , , and sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, it fell 1.02%, while the index lost 1.16%, and the index lost 1.14%.
The best performers of the session were Amgen (NASDAQ: ), which rose 1.93% or 5.04 points to trade at 266.01 at the close. Meanwhile, Home Depot Inc (NYSE: ) was up 0.66% or 2.19 points to end at 332.14 and IBM (International Business Machines Ltd ) (NYSE: ) was down 0.03% or 0.04 points to 141.87 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were The Dow Chemical Company (NYSE: ), which fell 3.34% or 1.85 points to trade at 53.53 at the close. Chevron Corporation (NYSE: ) declined 2.92% or 4.79 points to end at 159.24 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE: ) was down 2.55% or 3.94 points to 150.83 at the close.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ: ), which rose 2.95% to 15.37; Houghton Homes (NYSE: ), which was up 2.89% at the close at 126.84; Amgen (NASDAQ: ) Up 1.93% to close at 266.01.
The worst performers of the pack were Discovery Financial Services (NYSE: ) which was down 9.44% to 92.96 in late trade; PayPal (NASDAQ: ) which was down 6.01% to settle at 59.47 and First Solar Inc (NASDAQ: ) which was down 5.49% , closing at 199.83.
The top performers on the Nasdaq Composite were Delcath Systems (NASDAQ: ), which rose 81.73% to end at 5.67; Novo Integrated Sciences Inc (NASDAQ: ), which was up 63.61% to settle at 0.12; T2 Biosystms Inc ( NASDAQ 🙂 rose 51.56% to close at 0.59.
The worst performers were Galecto Inc (NASDAQ: ) which was down 71.22% to 0.67 in late trade, Design Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ) which lost 70.46% to settle at 2.17 and Alaunos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ) which was down 64.69% , with a closing price of 0.14.
2,454 stocks on the New York Stock Exchange fell, exceeding the number of stocks that closed higher—480. At the same time, 62 stocks did not rise or fall, basically flat; 2,495 stocks on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange closed down, and 1,020 stocks rose. In addition, 102 individual stocks remained basically unchanged.
Shares in Galecto Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; falling 71.22% or 1.67 to 0.67. Shares in Design Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ) fell to all time lows; down 70.46% or 5.16 to 2.17. Shares in Alaunos Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:) fell to all time lows; losing 64.69% or 0.25 to 0.14 at the close.
The implied volatility, used to measure S&P 500 options, rose 11.07 percent to 16.46.
Gold futures for December options fell 0.52%, or 10.15 points, to $1,933.85. For the rest of the futures, the WTI crude oil futures contract for September delivery fell 1.88% (1.55 points) to $80.96, while the October London Brent crude oil futures contract fell 1.53% (1.32) to trade at $84.89.
EUR/USD did not rise or fall by 0.01%, and the exchange rate was 1.09; at the same time, USD/JPY rose by 0.02%, quoting 145.57.
U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.05% to 103.11.
