Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the , , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYC, they gained 0.15%, compared with a gain of 0.03%, and the index gained 0.12%.
The best performers of the session were The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: ), which rose 4.88% or 4.27 points to trade at 91.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:) added 1.17% or 0.40 points to end at 34.68 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) was up 1.16% or 2.39 points to 208.25 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE: ), which fell 0.67% or 2.29 points to trade at 340.40 at the close. Nike (NYSE: ) declined 0.60% or 0.66 points to end at 109.03 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE: ) was down 0.52% or 0.90 points to 172.17 at the close.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: ), which rose 4.88% to 91.76; VF Corporation (NYSE: ), which was up 3.74% at the close at 19.98; FleetCor Technologies (NYSE: ), Up 3.30% to close at 268.61.
The worst performers were Tapestry Inc (NYSE: ) which was down 15.91% to 34.68 in late trade, General Motors Co (NYSE: ) which was down 5.78% to 34.16 and Ralph Lauren (NYSE: ) fell 4.82% to close at 122.30.
The top performers on the Nasdaq Composite were Science 37 Holdings Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 42.09% to settle at 0.59; TOMI Environmental Solutions Inc (NASDAQ: ), which was up 29.54% to settle at 0.92; Edible Garden AG Inc (NASDAQ: ) added 29.41% to trade at 1.54 at the close.
The worst performers were Galera Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ) which was down 83.93% to 0.36 in late trade; Amyris Corporation (NASDAQ: ) which was down 80.75% to settle at 0.07; It fell 66.40% to close at 1.46.
1,601 stocks on the New York Stock Exchange fell, exceeding the number of stocks that closed higher—1,311. At the same time, 85 stocks did not rise or fall, basically flat; 1,828 stocks on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange closed down, and 1,671 stocks rose. In addition, 126 individual stocks remained basically unchanged.

A measure of implied volatility for S&P 500 options fell 0.69% to 15.85.
Gold futures options for December delivery fell 0.24%, or 4.75 points, to $1,945.85. For the rest of the futures, the WTI crude oil futures contract for September delivery fell 1.81% (1.53 points), quoted at $82.87, while the October London Brent crude oil futures contract fell 1.32% (1.16), trading at $86.39.
EUR/USD did not rise or fall by 0.07%, and the exchange rate was 1.10; at the same time, USD/JPY rose by 0.73%, quoting 144.77.
U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.16% to 102.47.
