Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the , , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYC, it gained 0.07% compared with a gain of 0.58% and a gain of 1.05% for the index.
The best performers of the session were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: ), which rose 2.26% or 0.79 points to trade at 35.68 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce Inc (NYSE: ) added 1.61% or 3.36 points to end at 212.06 and Merck & Co (NYSE: ) was up 1.37% or 1.47 points to 108.91 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were 3M Company (NYSE: ), which fell 1.08% or 1.13 points to trade at 103.42 at the close. Walgreens Boots Alliance (NASDAQ: ) declined 0.95% or 0.28 points to end at 29.07 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE: ) was down 0.88% or 2.99 points to 337.74 at the close.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Nvidia Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 7.09% to 437.53; Micron Technology (NASDAQ: ), which rose 6.07% to close at 68.28; Steel Dynamics Inc (NASDAQ: ), rose 5.23%, closing at 107.65.
The worst performers were KeyCorp (NYSE:) which was down 4.67% to 11.02 in late trade, Comerica Inc (NYSE:) which was down 3.89% to settle at 50.09 and Citizens Financial Group Inc (Rhode Island) (NYSE: ) It fell 3.68% to close at 29.58.
The top performers on the Nasdaq Composite were Zynerba Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 298.23% to settle at 1.35; Taysha Gene Therapies Inc (NASDAQ: ), which was up 188.23% to settle at 2.13; Technology Ltd (NASDAQ: ) was up 70.18% to trade at 0.28 at the close.
The worst performers were Huaxia Boya (NASDAQ: ) which was down 69.32% to 0.77 in late trade; BioXcel Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ) which lost 41.49% to settle at 4.33; and Aurora Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ: ) which was down 35.28% , closing at 22.97.
1,720 stocks on the New York Stock Exchange fell, and the number exceeded the number of stocks that closed higher—1,227. At the same time, 80 stocks did not rise or fall, basically flat; 2,087 stocks on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange closed down, and 1,448 stocks rose. In addition, 104 individual stocks remained basically unchanged.
Shares in BioXcel Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ) fell to 3-year lows; losing 41.49% or 3.07 to 4.33.
A measure of implied volatility for S&P 500 options fell 0.13% to 14.82.
Gold futures for December options fell 0.36%, or 7.05 points, to $1,939.55. For the rest of the futures, the WTI crude oil futures contract for September delivery fell 0.72% (0.60 points) to $82.59, while the October London Brent crude oil futures contract fell 0.59% (0.51) to trade at $86.30.
EUR/USD did not rise or fall by 0.36%, and the exchange rate was 1.09; at the same time, USD/JPY rose by 0.36%, quoting 145.48.
U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.34% to 103.04.
