Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, it gained 0.31% to hit a new one-year high, while the index gained 0.24%, and the index gained 0.03%.
The best performers of the session were Verizon (NYSE: ), which rose 5.27% or 1.70 points to trade at 33.97 at the close. Meanwhile, Salesforce Inc (NYSE: ) added 2.96% or 6.74 points to end at 234.37 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ: ) was up 2.32% or 1.19 points to 52.43 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Boeing Co (NYSE:), which fell 1.40% or 2.97 points to trade at 208.60 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: ) declined 1.23% or 4.41 points to end at 355.08 and American Express (NYSE: ) was down 0.52% or 0.92 points to 177.12 at the close.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Northern Trust Corporation (NASDAQ: ), which rose 13.36% to 81.28; AT&T (NYSE: ), which was up 8.48% at the close, to 14.59; KeyCorp (NYSE: ). Up 6.54% to close at 11.41.
The worst performers of the stock were Omnicom (Omnicom ) (NYSE: ) which was down 10.36% to 87.78 in late trade; Ai Peizhi (NYSE: ) was down 7.88% to close at 37.66; Lay Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ) fell 5.00% to trade at 342.58 at the close.
The top performers on the Nasdaq Composite were 60 Degrees Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ: ), which rose 36.36% to end at 3.30 and SMX Security Matters Ord Shs Class A (NASDAQ: ), which was up 28.08% to settle at 0.19 enVVeno Medical Corp (NASDAQ: ) rose 27.47% to trade at 4.64 at the close.
The worst performers were Sono Group NV (NASDAQ: ) which was down 32.42% to 0.23 in late trade; Amarin (NASDAQ: ) which lost 24.48% to settle at 1.08; and Carmell Therapeutics Corp (NASDAQ: ) which was down 24.21 %, the closing price was 6.51.
1,836 stocks rose on the New York Stock Exchange, exceeding the number of stocks that closed down—1,072. At the same time, 113 stocks did not rise or fall, basically flat; 1,944 stocks rose on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, and 1,571 stocks fell. 149 individual stocks were basically unchanged.
Shares in Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) rose to 1-year highs; up 2.96% or 6.74 to 234.37. Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: ) shares rose to 1-year highs; up 2.32% or 1.19 to 52.43 at the close. Shares in Carmell Therapeutics Corp (NASDAQ: ) fell to all time lows; falling 24.21% or 2.08 to 6.51 at the close.
The implied volatility, used to measure S&P 500 options, rose 3.46% to 13.76.
Gold futures options for August delivery rose 0.01%, or 0.15 points, to $1,980.95. For the rest of the futures, the WTI crude oil futures contract for September delivery fell 0.44% (0.33 points) to $75.33, while the September London Brent crude oil futures contract fell 0.19% (0.15) to trade at $79.48.
EUR/USD did not rise or fall by 0.22%, and the exchange rate was 1.12; at the same time, USD/JPY rose by 0.65%, quoting 139.71.
U.S. dollar index futures rose 0.38% to 100.00.
