“As negotiators work through the remaining issues, we hope their efforts will allow the Senate to move quickly (…) early next year,” Senate Democratic Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a joint statement.
“For the remainder of this year, the Senate and [ASV] administration negotiators will continue to work in good faith to finalize an agreement.”
“Challenging issues remain, but we are committed to addressing the needs on [ASV] southern borders and help allies and partners address serious threats in Israel, Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific region. The Senate will not allow these national security challenges to go unanswered,” the joint statement said.
U.S. Senate Republicans have blocked additional funding for Ukraine amid a pre-election dispute with Democrats over U.S. border security.
