The Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America in Mauritius, Mrs. Judes E. DeBaere, bade farewell, on Tuesday afternoon, to the Prime Minister, Mr. Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building, in Port-Louis.
In a statement after the meeting, the outgoing Chargé d’Affaires said that she had spent three wonderful years in Mauritius and expressed her satisfaction at having been part of the Mauritian diplomatic community.
Ms. DeBaere also said that she found the relations with the Mauritian government very beneficial and favorable to bilateral relations. “It was so nice to have known the Mauritian people and culture, where the prevailing cultural and social harmony is exemplary for the rest of the world,” she underlined.
The discussions, indicated the Chargé d’Affaires, focused mainly on American news and also on the very good relations that we have shared through the COVID-19 vaccines. “The United States was very willing to donate vaccines to Mauritius, as the country had put in place the necessary infrastructure to get the vaccines to the people,” Ms. DeBaere stressed.
She also pointed out that Mauritius is an example for Africa and the rest of the world to follow in the effective administration of vaccines against COVID-19.
Ms. Judes E. DeBaere took up her post as Deputy Head of Mission in Mauritius in June 2019. She previously served in Oman as Management Officer and in Abu Dhabi as Management Counsellor. Previously, she was Chief of Protocol for Ambassadors to Iraq and served as Management Officer in Burundi and Italy.
The Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America (USA) in Mauritius, Mrs. Judes E. DeBaere, paid a farewell visit earlier to the Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr. Alan Ganoo, at his office in Port Louis.
In a brief statement, the Chargée d’Affaires painted a positive picture of her three-year tenure in Mauritius, describing it as fabulous. She said she would take the memories of the people and her wonderful experiences here with her.
Furthermore, Mrs. DeBaere stressed that as a big fan of Mauritius, she hoped to raise awareness of the country and promote the beneficial relations it enjoys. She recalled that one of the illustrations of the symbiotic relationship between the United States and Mauritius was the donation of vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic, which was quickly put to the service of society.
Chargée d’Affaires Judes E. DeBaere took up her post in Mauritius in June 2019, after having served in Oman as Management Officer, and in the United Arab Emirates as Management Counsellor. She previously worked in Guyana, Iraq, Burundi and Italy.
