U-23 Indonesian National Team a landslide 9-0 win over Taiwan in the first match of Group K 2024 U-23 Asian Cup Qualification at Manahan Stadium, Saturday (9/9).
Indonesia U-23 took a 5-0 lead in the first half through goals from Marselino Ferdinan (3′), Ramadhan Sananta (6′), Rafael Struick (19′), Witan Sulaeman (30′), and Rio Fahmi (40′).
Even though they were 5-0 up in the first half, the U-23 Indonesian National Team continued to put pressure on Taiwan at the start of the second half. However, Indonesia’s attack this time was not as aggressive as the first half.
Pratama Arhan’s left footed shot from outside the penalty box hit a Taiwanese player in the 54th minute, and only resulted in a corner kick.
The Indonesian U-23 national team took a 6-0 lead in the 56th minute through Elkan Baggott’s header which took advantage of Arkhan Fikri’s corner kick.
Marselino Ferdinan scored his second goal in this match in the 58th minute. The former Persebaya player swerved in front of the penalty box, outwitting one opposing player.
Then stabbed into the penalty box and fired a left foot shot by directing the ball into the left corner of the Taiwan goal.
Elkan Baggott almost scored the second goal against Taiwan in the 74th minute. However, Baggott’s header to the right side of the opponent’s goal after taking advantage of Arkhan Fikri’s corner was still sideways.
Substitute striker Hokky Caraka added a goal for the U-23 Indonesian National Team in the 79th minute to make it 8-0. Hokky’s goal came from Arhan’s cross from the left side.
The ball from Arhan was received by Fajar Fathur Rahman who immediately passed it to Hokky who was standing in front of the Taiwan goal. Without difficulty, Hokky put Indonesia ahead 8-0.
A fatal mistake was made by goalkeeper Chang Hsiang Chun in the 85th minute. Hsiang Chun failed to secure Indonesia’s breakthrough bait which was chased by Arhan.
The ball that Hsiang Chun was trying to secure came loose and was controlled by Arhan. The Tokyo Verdy player easily put Indonesia ahead 9-0.
Indonesia had a chance to lead 5-0 after receiving a penalty in the 88th minute after Rafael Struick was tripped in the forbidden box.
However, Struick’s penalty execution in the 89th minute to the right was saved by goalkeeper Hsiang Chun. Without additional goals in the remaining match, Indonesia U-23 won 9-0 over Taiwan.
