U-23 Indonesian National Team left for Thailand, Monday (14/8/2023). Rizky Ridho, Dzaky Asraf, and Fajar Fathur Rahman who were summoned finally did not join.
Garuda Muda will do it AFF U-23 Cup 2023 in Thailand. National team U-23 joined in Group B with Malaysia and Timor Leste.
Shin Tae-yong’s team will face Malaysia in the first match of Group B, Friday (18/8). Then two days later they will fight Timor Leste, Sunday (20/8).
The victory over Malaysia was important in order to open up opportunities to qualify for the semifinals. This is because only the group winners qualify automatically for the semifinals.
“Unfortunately Shin Tae-yong was unable to bring all of his best players to this annual event,” wrote the official PSSI statement.
“Shin Tae-yong also cannot include U-23 players who are labeled stars in League 1 2023-2024. Call them Rizky Ridho, Witan Sulaeman, Adi Satryo to Fajar Fathur Rahman,” continued the statement.
Witan Sulaeman was not included in the list of 23 players released by PSSI some time ago. His name was indeed on the list of 26 players, but in the end PSSI deleted it and revised it to 23 players where Witan was no longer participating.
In addition, Dzaki Asraf from PSM Makassar also did not participate because his club was not released. That means there are four name changes from the previously released list of 23 players.
Fajar Fathur Rahman from Borneo FC Samarinda was replaced by Bhayangkara Presisi Indonesia FC player, Titan Agung. It is possible that Borneo will contribute three players if Fajar Fathur Rahman joins the national team because there are also Komang Teguh Trisnanda and young goalkeeper Daffa Fasya.
The second substitution took place in the goalkeeper sector where Adi Satryo failed to join. It was reported that the PSIS Semarang goalkeeper had diarrhea and typhus which required a long rest period so his position was replaced by Nuri Agus from FC Bekasi.
Then the replacements for Rizky Ridho and Dzaki were Mohammad Kanu from Persis Solo and Haykal Alhafiz from PSIS Semarang.
