U-23 Indonesian National Team narrowly won 1-0 over Timor Leste in the second match of Group B of the 2023 AFF U-23 Cup, Sunday (20/8). This match was marred by controversy over the referee’s decision annulling Ramadhan Sananta’s goal.
The U-23 Indonesian national team won 1-0 over Timor Leste in the first half at the Rayong Province Stadium, Thailand, Sunday (20/8) evening.
Shin Tae Yong’s team immediately implemented an attacking game and high pressing so that Timor Leste was immediately pressured.
The junior Lafaek squad tried to live up to Indonesia’s playing style by pressing counter and trying to steal opportunities when Bagas Kaffa and his friends made mistakes.
The bait combination for the U-23 Indonesian National Team is still not going well. Timor Leste seeks to take advantage of this. Meanwhile, Jeam Kelly Sroyer also tried to maximize the opportunities that were born from the errors of Timor Leste players in the ninth minute, but his kick was still caught by Georgino Da Silva.

The U-23 Indonesian National Team siege again did not produce a goal. Alfeandra Dewangga’s strong kick in the 34th minute also flew over the Timor Leste crossbar.
In the 39th minute it was Beckham Putra’s turn that failed to aim at the opponent’s goal.
Ramadhan Sananta scored a goal that gave Indonesia a 1-0 lead over Timor Leste in the 45th minute after taking advantage of Beckham Putra Nugraha’s pass.
Indonesia actually had many golden opportunities in the second half, but failed to convert them into goals.
In the 52nd minute, Indonesia got a golden opportunity after the Timor Leste defender made a blunder. The ball can be taken by Esal Sahrul and immediately shoots at the opponent’s goal but the Timor Leste goalkeeper can block it.
In the 55th minute. Indonesian U-23 national team coach Shin Tae Yong received a warning from the referee in the form of a yellow card after protesting loudly against the referee.
In the 78th minute, Indonesia was able to break into Timor Leste’s goal through Ramadhan Sananta’s shot. But Ramadhan Sananta’s goal was disallowed by the Thai referee Torpong Somsing. If you look at the replay, it seems that Sananta is still in an onside position, while the assistant referee seems to be late in following the last player’s movements.
Until the end of the match there were no additional goals from Indonesia. Indonesia won 1-0 over Timor Leste and still has a chance to qualify for the semifinals, although they have to wait for the results of other matches.
