On Thursday (6.15 p.m.) a test match against Slovenia is on the program. On the following Tuesday (November 17th, 6.15 p.m.), points will be the focus of the European Championship qualification against Wales. “We want to make the final qualification for the U-21 European Championship in 2021 against Wales perfect, that is the clear goal of this international phase,” said Kuntz. That would certainly be the case with a win. In the event of a draw or a tie, the DFB Juniors are dependent on Belgium’s result in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

For the first time in the line-up of 26 are Lennart Czyborra (CFC Genoa) and Jean-Manuel Mbom (SV Werder Bremen). Coach Kuntz has to do without the injured Ragnar Ache (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Dennis Geiger (TSG Hoffenheim).

“Some of our boys are currently in several competitions, others have championship games next Sunday or Monday and are therefore only available to us to a limited extent during training. That is why we decided to nominate a larger squad with a total of 26 players, taking into account the load management , including two new faces with Lennart Czyborra and Jean-Manuel Mbom. We look forward to getting to know them, “said the coach about the nomination.

DFB takes special precautions

In addition to the existing hygiene concept, the DFB is taking special precautions for the U21s with a view to the current corona situation. “We took the positive Corona case in the October international match phase as an opportunity to position ourselves even more professionally here,” says Kuntz. “If we had to go into a corona-related quarantine at short notice before the European Championship qualifier against Wales, a complete team including support staff would be available on call. This will prepare us for an emergency, which will hopefully not occur.”
