JAKARTA – The U-17 Indonesian National Team is trying to form a tough squad to welcome the U-17 World Cup. One of the efforts is to hold selection in 12 cities.
U-17 National Team Consultant Frank Wormuth was satisfied with the players who were selected in the selection process.
According to the man from Germany, 42 players selected in 12 cities have good quality. ”They can play the ball well. But, to appear in a tournament, you need a good physique,” he said.
“To improve physically, it takes time,” added Frank in field A of the Bung Karno Complex, Jakarta, Wednesday (16/8) afternoon.
Therefore, even though the 42 players are still undergoing a screening process and will join the players who previously won the 2022 AFF U-16 Cup, the coaching team is also trying to strengthen their physical condition.
”We are also still looking for a number of positions that must be filled. That’s why we do selection, minigames and trials for all players,”explained the former coach of FC Groningen.
Frank added that preparations for the U-17 National Team ahead of the U-17 World Cup were not only held in Indonesia. The Bima Sakti squad will also be forged in Germany. But, in the program, not all players are taken.
”We will fly to Germany after the selection. There, trained for five weeks. Then, forming the first team for the U-17 World Cup. But, we only brought 20 plus 3 players. So, several players were not brought in,”explained the former coach of the German U-20 national team.
Then, who will be taken to Germany? ”Keep in mind, I work behind the coach. As for who to choose, that is the authority of coach Bima. I’m just giving a suggestion. Then, talk about football and share experiences. However, in the end, Bima is the coach,” explained the 62-year-old man.
The U-17 national team coach, Bima Sakti Tukiman, admitted that he still needed time to determine who would be brought to Germany. The selection process is still ongoing. ”There is still a training agenda. Then proceed with the internal game,”explained Bima.
Regarding the final results of the selection, Bima will discuss with the trainers. ”Later we will compare with data from other coaches. The results will be released by PSSI,”said the former Persiba Balikpapan player.
PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir assessed that preparations for the U-17 National Team ahead of the U-17 World Cup were very tight. Because of that, Erick asked the coach so that the third or fourth week of August had determined the squad that would go to Germany.
”Returning from Germany there is still time to return to training for 10 days in Indonesia. I’ve checked the other teams. Canada and America will train for 10 days in Bali before appearing in the U-17 World Cup,” explained the BUMN Minister. (jp/yn/ris)
